Ghost Towns
Throughout the 1900s Castle Country boomed with mining and railroad towns. There was a town or coal camp in nearly every canyon. Now most of them have disappeared.
Luckily, there are more than old buildings and abandoned mine tipples to tell the stories of the people who lived here. Many histories have been written about the immigrants who came to settle the rugged land and mine its coal. Some of Utah's most colorful history happened in the mining camps and railroad stops of Castle Country.
