The Little Grand Canyon Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K have all been given the USATF Certification (Requirement to run in the Boston Marathon). The requirements to fulfill the USATF Certification are fairly complex and it is the Track and Field standard for official races. The official times will be posted after the race.

This is the only Marathon and Half Marathon where you get to run through the Little Grand Canyon in Eastern Utah and see some of the most pristine scenery in the world. This area is also known as the San Rafael Swell or BuckHorn Wash. These towering Red Rocks are not only Majestic but they tell the Geological timetable as you run through the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous Era’s. There are actual dinosaur footprints on the side of the road and you run in front of one of the largest Native American Pictograph Panels in the State(The BuckHorn Panel).

Due to this exclusive location and the multiple Paleontological and Archeological vista’s, this is the only run of its kind. This is a limited run and is not for runners that enjoy running in large crowds and in great cities, this is for the scenic-runner that enjoys the tranquility and beauty of running in nature.

This run is featured in a new book.  Click this link to view details of the book.

During the running of our 2014 Little Grand Canyon marathon, we had Peter Ickert from Germany document his race experience on  Although it is in his native language of German, it is a very neat post.  There are ways to translate the webpage into your language.  Thanks Peter for the post!!

10K:  $43

Half Marathon:  $53

Marathon:  $63

All event prices increase $5 After January 12, 2015 and another $5 2 weeks before event and another $5 for race day registration.

Please note that we offer no refunds, but we will offer a free transfer to next years event if notified 2 weeks before the event.

View Course MapThe course begins at 5,650ft and only has about 235ft of climb in the first four miles. The remaining course is fairly flat with a slight decline until you hit the mouth of BuckHorn Wash (about 16 miles from the start). The remaining course descends about 547ft over the next 10 miles. This is a great decline because it doesn’t put unnecessary pain on your joints by being too steep.

View Course MapThis is primarily a flat / downhill half-marathon with only gently rolling hills. The beginning of the run starts at an elevation of 5656ft. and descends to an elevation of 5100ft. so it will not put unnecessary strain on joints. There is only one access road through the canyon, but it is fairly compacted.

View Course MapThis is going to be one of the faster and most scenic 10K’s around. Runners will mostly descend through the most scenic part of the canyon. This route is going to be along the last 6.2 miles of the marathon and half marathon course.

Each person to complete the race will receive a custom medallion. Overall awards will be given at the finishline.

The packet pickup will be 6-9 p.m., Friday night, at the CEU Prehistoric Museum in Price, Utah(2 hour from Salt Lake City; 2 1/2 hours from Grand Junction, CO). Race packets can also be picked up the morning of the race from 5:00 to 6:00 at Huntington City Park.

A race official and the timing company will start each event.

Marathon: Buses will leave Huntington City Park at 6:15a.m. The race will start at approximately 6:30a.m. Please be on-time. You may have family or friends drop you off at the starting point, as it is only 2 miles from the city park.

Half Marathon: Buses will leave at 6:35 a.m. Race will start a few minutes after arrival at the starting point.

10K: Bus will leave at 6:35 a.m. and the race will start a few minutes after arrival.

Water and sports drinks will be provided at every 2nd mile marker, while GU and fruit will be provided at every fourth mile marker. Fruit, bottled water, famous snow cones, snacks and lunch items will be provided immediately after the race.

There will be porta-potties at the starting point and finish of each race and at every water station. The government also has permanent toilets at the finish line, campsite and other locations throughout the course. We still encourage all runners to utilize the flushing toilets at the park before departing on the bus.

The SUN Center is a service organization from the Utah State University Eastern. They are going to assist us in caring for the water stations and assisting at the finish line.

USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum is going to assist us with educational signs that will provide an educational tour of the sights and historic timetables about the area that runners will be entering.

Emery County’s Fire Department is going to assist with traffic control, Emergency Aid, Directing Runners and Safety.

Runner Card will be handling the timing for this event.

During this race, there are areas where you run where you might run in the sun.  It is recommended to wear sunscreen.  We will provide sunscreen at some of the water stations, but it is recommended to bring a personal supply.  Also, there is a possibility for flying bugs while running.  We will provide some bug spray, but it is recommended that you bring a personal supply.  You will run on a dirt packed road, not on pavement.  Please be aware of this as you prepare your feet for this race.  The dirt road means you are running through a wonderful scenery!

Due to the exclusive location of the race and to avoid congestion, we will need to bus runners back to Huntington City Park.

The middle of September is excellent weather for the marathon and half marathon. The average high temperature can range from the high sixties to low seventies. With over 150 clear days during the Summer, there is a good chance we will have optimal weather.

Runners will get a free shirt and Custom Finishing Medal after the race. If you would like to change your shirt into a Tech running shirt it will be $5, but please request the shirt two weeks before race day.

Each race is limited to the first 500 entrants. Please avoid race-day registration, we may have room for you, but there is no guarantee of a finishing medal or shirt if it is 2-weeks before the race. We will order extra, but it will be a first-come, first-serve basis. Race registration is available via the “Register Link” aboveor by mail.

The Little Grand Canyon is considered to be one of the hidden treasures of the world and we look forward to seeing you there!
